Its shafts plunge a mile beneath sea level under the range, starting at 3500' above. One of these, Bralorne, is among the deepest mines in Canada and in its heyday was the third-richest gold mine in the world it has waned from a peak population of 8,000 to less than 300 today.
WHITECAP MOUNTIAN SERIES
The range's western flank is the site of a series of now-semi-abandoned mining towns. It lies between Anderson Lake on the southeast and the Carpenter Lake Reservoir or the Bridge River Power Project on the north, with the gold-rich valley of Cadwallader Creek on its southwest. We’re looking forward to a return visit later in the season when there is more snow and more ski runs open, and to see what further renovations have been made. The Bendor Range is a small but once-famous subrange of the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains, about It is approximately 7,000 square kilometres (2,700 mi2) in area and about 40 km long (NW to SE) and about 18 km at its widest. It would be a great destination for a ski club, a large family reunion, or a corporate trip. Whitecap is a charming resort, with lots of character, and a great natural setting for year round outdoor fun. There are also many condos on the property which can accommodate larger groups. The lodge has quiet guest rooms with good beds, a hot tub, and pool, and is also being renovated. There is a ski shop on site which has a good selection of gear and clothing. The rental shop is under construction with brand new ski equipment arriving later this week.

The brand new restaurant, bar, and cafe are reasonably priced and the restaurant has some very creative and delicious dishes, some with a local twist. Best of all, the friendly, helpful local employees were very attentive and focused on the guests. The resort has over 400 acres, 43 ski runs, golf course, and a lake. We loved the facility and the beautiful natural setting in the forest of the Pennokee Mountains. We loved our visit to Whitecap! The resort is beautiful and is currently being renovated by the new owner. We overheard him being very mean to an employee.

I have to say the lift operator when getting on was very friendly and the ticket counter very helpful. So pick a day with a foot of fresh snow and you'll be good. I have to say the terrain and hills are fantastic when there is a powder day, but the groomers look to be 20 years old and do not break up the ice. We couldn't even rent a snowboard for my son. On facebook the new owner claims to have spent 3.5mil for improvements. Still 1970s decor and bedding along with small tube tvs and no wi-fi. They also raised the hotel rates so we figured big changes there. From driving in and seeing garbage cans piled high, the tyvek still flapping in the wind on the check-in building to the very old and dirty carpet when we first walked in. While the bar and restaurant have been updated the rest of the place still looks the same. We've been to Whitecap many times over the years and was hoping for changes with the new owners.
